Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
